Episode: 11 John Lucas

John Lucas, the third and middle Kovasckitz brother, invited us up to his home in Todd, NC on a crisp winter morning. The familiar bustle of his small, but growing family created a full-circle backdrop to the Home Movies project.

Lucas (as family calls him) has been creating heart-centered music from the hills of Appalachia for over a decade. He left home in Charlotte for college in Boone and never looked back — his quiet and peaceful soul had found a place to call home and build a family. The brothers have been making videos together since Lucas wrote and directed a short film at 11 years old (shot on the family camcorder). In continued collaboration, Lucas composed the “Home Movies” theme for the series, as Jud and Rudy have helped with nearly all the visuals to accompany his musical releases over the years.

‘John Lucas writes with intimacy and depth, spanning musically from sweeping cinematic scores to bare-bones acoustic. Lucas's lyrics are raw, honest, and challenging...but delivered with the warmth of a friend.

Lucas has been recording music for over a dozen years, starting on his own and then joining forces with producer and engineer Everett Hardin. Lucas’s music has gained a loyal following - amassing over 35 million streams on Spotify alone. Lucas's music has been licensed for TV shows appearing on MTV and Freeform, corporate ads including Google, and has received thousands of licenses for small businesses, non-profits, and wedding films. Lucas licenses exclusively through Musicbed.

Lucas and his family are putting down roots in the small mountain town of Boone, NC.’ — JohnLucasMusic.com
